World Book Day at Astor

On Friday, April 23rd, it was World Book Day. We came to school dressed as our favourite book characters. We had Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Rainbow Fish, Cat in the Hat, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Harry Potter characters, and many more.

We started the day off with our Astor assembly where Mrs. Shannon was reading the BFG to us, and then we had Astor awards and a Book Character Parade. Then, we broke into small groups and listened to teachers read different books to us, some were even in French and Polish. We also did different book activities in our classrooms like making bookmarks, character selfie pictures, predicting the ending to stories, and other creative activities.

At Astor, we like reading together. There are many cozy and well-lit spots for spending time with a book. Kids like to discuss the plot, express feelings about characters and their actions, think about alternative endings, and pick up new words.

Happy World Book Day! :)
