Key Responsibilities
General
Lead Primary School Teaching and Learning, holding responsibility for educational standards across the Primary School.
Lead the development and monitoring of policies relating to Astor’s Teaching and Learning, curriculum and professional development and ensure that the school’s practice reflects those policies.
Work with the Head of Primary/Principal to manage students with specific needs.
Work with the Head of Primary/Principal to lead to manage and develop the teaching expertise, professional development, and wellbeing of all Astor staff.
Establish and maintain high standards of student achievement and behaviour throughout the primary school.
Pedagogy & Teaching Approach
Foster a student-centred learning environment that encourages independent thinking and collaboration.
Build positive and nurturing relationships with students to support their growth as lifelong learners.
Contribute to teaching in the school as an excellent practitioner
Plan, teach and evaluate a challenging, stimulating, creative and exciting holistic curriculum for all Astor students, including appropriate robust systems for assessment and tracking
Use both formative and summative assessments to plan differentiated lessons that meet diverse learning needs.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
Promote student ownership and engagement in learning.
Maintain open and regular communication with parents through feedback, reporting, and celebrations of student progress.
Work with the Head of Primary/Principal to lead the teaching and learning strategy across the primary school.
Work with the Head of Primary/Principal to support staff to develop, organise and implement Astor’s chosen curriculum and supplement programs.
Ensure that information on student progress is used to improve teaching and learning, to inform and motivate students, to inform parents and to provide necessary references for other educational institutions.
Curriculum, Enrichment Activities and Instruction
Demonstrate a strong understanding of curriculum skills, concepts, values, and learning progressions.
Implement effective metacognitive and reflective practices.
Adapt teaching strategies to best meet students’ needs.
Prepare and present student reports and assessment data to parents and relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with colleagues to plan and develop a curriculum that builds progressively across the academic year and grade levels.
Deliver a creative, dynamic and inquiry-led IPC curriculum.
Integrate cross-curricular links between IPC, English, and Mathematics.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and parent meetings beyond classroom hours.
Be present on campus or engaged in school-related tasks from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday (with flexibility as needed).
Plan and lead field trips, camps, performances, and excursions.
Provide active supervision during school activities.
Lead one enrichment class per week.
Staff Management and Development
Partner with the Head of Primary / Principal in the development of teaching staff, providing coaching and mentoring support as required.
Promote staff development through appropriate training and a programme of performance management for assigned staff.
Professional Development & Collaboration
Engage in continuous professional growth and self-reflection.
Stay updated on best practices in education and apply new learning strategies.
Contribute to the professional development of colleagues through mentoring and coaching.
Actively participate in the school’s appraisal process and goal-setting initiatives.
School Culture & Community Engagement
Foster a positive, respectful and supportive school environment.
Ensure that the classroom and school spaces reflect Astor’s vision and values.
Build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Contribute to the wider school community through participation in meetings, events, and marketing activities (e.g., Open Days).
Other Responsibilities
Maintain awareness of teachers’ professional duties and legal obligations.
Adhere to school policies and practices.
Uphold high standards of professionalism and conduct.
Collaborate with colleagues to optimize school resources and enhance student learning.
Undertake any additional duties assigned by the school’s leadership team.
Qualifications & Experience
A minimum four-year teaching qualification from an international university (minimum Bachelor of Education).
Minimum five years of international teaching experience.
Evidence of ongoing professional development in education.
Experience teaching primary grades.
Experience in international schools and/or working outside of Singapore.
Native English speaker with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Skilled holistic approach to education.
Experience with inquiry-based curricula such as IPC or IB (IPC preferred).
At least two references from international schools.
