Classroom Teacher

The Role


Astor International School is seeking an experienced and passionate Student Support Teacher. The successful candidate will be an internationally qualified educator with experience in inquiry-based teaching (IPC/IB) and a strong commitment to student-centered learning.

Founded in August 2019, Astor International School provides quality, affordable education to international students. We offer a focused and creative learning environment that fosters student understanding in Mathematics, English, Humanities, and Science while integrating Art, Music, Dance, and Drama as essential tools for exploration and learning. Our structured schedule allows students to finish at 1:00 PM, enabling them to engage in enrichment activities beyond the school day.


Key Responsibilities


Specific Roles and Responsibilities

  • Working with primary age children either push in support or with small groups or 1 to 1.

  • Working with students with specific areas of need.

  • Supporting the classroom teacher in planning for students with specific areas of need.

  • Communicate with classroom teacher’s student information that is necessary to monitor student progress.

  • Supporting classroom teachers with lesson preparation and any support they need to fill full their teaching.


Pedagogy & Teaching Approach

  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that encourages independent thinking and collaboration.

  • Build positive and nurturing relationships with students to support their growth as lifelong learners.

  • Use both formative and summative assessments to plan differentiated lessons that meet diverse learning needs.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.

  • Promote student ownership and engagement in learning.

  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents through feedback, reporting, and celebrations of student progress.


Curriculum, Enrichment Activities and Instruction

  • Deliver a creative, dynamic, and inquiry-led IPC curriculum.

  • Integrate cross-curricular links between IPC, English, and Mathematics.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and parent meetings beyond classroom hours.

  • Be present on campus or engaged in school-related tasks from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday (with flexibility as needed).

  • Plan and lead field trips, camps, performances, and excursions.

  • Provide active supervision during school activities.

  • Lead one extracurricular activity (ECA) per week.


Staff Management and Development

  • Engage in continuous professional growth and self-reflection.

  • Stay updated on best practices in education and apply new learning strategies.

  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues through mentoring and coaching.

  • Actively participate in the school’s appraisal process and goal-setting initiatives.


Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive school environment.

  • Ensure that the classroom and school spaces reflect Astor’s vision and values.

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.

  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in meetings, events, and marketing activities (e.g., Open Days).


School Culture & Community Engagement

  • Foster a positive, respectful and supportive school environment.

  • Ensure that the classroom and school spaces reflect Astor’s vision and values.

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.

  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in meetings, events, and marketing activities (e.g., Open Days).


Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of teachers’ professional duties and legal obligations.

  • Adhere to school policies and practices.

  • Uphold high standards of professionalism and conduct.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to optimize school resources and enhance student learning.

  • Undertake any additional duties assigned by the school’s leadership team.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Native English speaker.

  • A minimum of a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Education or an internationally recognised teaching qualification.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in education.

  • Experience teaching primary grades.

  • Experience in international schools and/or working outside of Singapore.

  • A holistic approach to education.
