At Astor International School, we consider it our responsibility to educate our students in life, not just academia. And this means making health and well-being fun and engaging; building habits at a young age that will help our children become adults who can make good choices. We do this in the classroom, in our enrichment classes and in many other ways during the school day. It’s a critical part of our goal to be the best affordable international primary school in Singapore.

Food is one of the foundation stones of this approach. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring! Imagine a table filled with colorful fruits, crunchy veggies, and exciting snacks that not only taste delicious but also engage all your senses. For children, exploring healthy foods can be an adventure full of discovery, independence, and joy.


When children explore food in creative and interactive ways, they learn that healthy choices can be just as tasty as treats. Beyond the flavors, this activity allows them to experience food through all their senses—feeling textures, smelling aromas, noticing colors, and even hearing the crunch of a fresh bite. These multi-sensory experiences help children build a positive relationship with food, making them more open to trying new things.
Children can explore healthy foods in creative ways by turning snacks into food art fun, such as making faces, animals, or colorful patterns with fruits and vegetables; enjoying a taste test with small bites of sweet, sour, crunchy, or tangy foods while describing and comparing flavors; and engaging in texture play, noticing the smoothness of bananas, the bumpiness of broccoli, or the satisfying crunch of celery. These playful approaches make healthy eating exciting, build curiosity, and encourage children to try new foods with confidence.

Another key benefit is independence. After enjoying their meal or snack, children take responsibility by cleaning up after themselves. This small but important step builds confidence, ownership, and life skills that extend beyond the dining table.
In conclusion, exploring healthy foods in playful and hands-on ways sets children on a path toward healthier eating habits and greater independence. By making food fun and engaging, we nurture curiosity, responsibility, and a love for taking care of themselves and of our planet.
